Section 5: Editing What You View |
| |
| F4: Tools allows you to change some of the properties of the graphs and animations—vertical and horizontal—to suit your needs. |
| |
 |
On the left, the F4: Tools Menu is displayed. Options are: NumDisp Graph World Table Actor Marks Clock |
| |
NumDisp : This allows you the option to turn on and off a read-out at the bottom of the Animtion screen that displays time and position for Actors A and B. |
 |
Turn on the Numeric Display by checking On. |
| |
 |
When Animation is enabled (F2: View: Animation) you will see a Numeric Display appear at the bottom of the screen. The display continuously updates while the animation is running, keeping a one-line display of Time, Actor A’s Position and Actor B’s Position. Remember, pressing Enter will pause the animation. |
| |
Graph : This option allows you to change the graph's properties. |
 |
Here, you will have access to editing Position, Velocity, or Acceleration graph properties. (If they are available with your document.) |
| |
 |
Here you have access to editing the Zoom, showing/hiding the extents, turning on grid lines, editing labels, X-axis values, and Y-axis values.
You may use the soft keys OK and Clr at any time without scrolling to highlight them. |
| |
 |
Zoom: Here you can change the XMin, XMax, YMin, and YMax Values and Extents Hide or Extents Show.
You may use the soft keys OK and Clr at any time without scrolling to highlight them. |
| |
 |
Grid: Here you can turn grid lines on for the Major or Minor Axis (or both). You can also turn Snap (to grid) On or Off. Snap to grid controls the hotspot or cursor movements along the graph. If Snap to grid is ON, the user can only move along grid lines, if Snap to grid is OFF, the user can move to spaces in between grid lines. For example, if the grid lines (whether visible or not) are spaced apart every 1 unit and Snap to grid is on you cannot move a hotspot or cursor to a 1/2 unit.
You may use the soft keys OK and Clr at any time without scrolling to highlight them. |
| |
 |
Labels: Here you can create a label for the X Axis, Y Axis, name the graph, and turn the labels On or Off, i.e., you can choose to only display the axis labels, or only the graph label.
You may use the soft keys OK and Clr at any time without scrolling to highlight them. |
| |
 |
X-Axis: Here you can edit the X-Axis settings. Choose an XMin, XMax value, how frequently you would like a major tick mark, how frequently you would like a minor tick mark, and when to label each tick mark. Selecting good tick mark values will help keep your graph looking organized and easy to read. For example, if your XMin was -5 and your XMax was 35, having a minor tick mark every 1 unit would produce a graph with a lot of marks that are very close together. A minor tick mark every 5 units would separate the marks so they are easier to see. Always choose a major tick mark value larger than your minor tick mark.
You may use the soft keys OK and Clr at any time without scrolling to highlight them. |
| |
 |
Y-Axis: Here you can edit the Y-Axis settings. Choose an YMin, YMax value, how frequently you would like a major tic mark, how frequently you would like a minor tick mark, and when to label each tick mark. Selecting good tick mark values will help keep your graph looking organized and easy to read. For example, if your YMin was -5 and your YMax was 35, having a minor tick mark every 1 unit would produce a graph with a lot of marks that are very close together. A minor tick mark every 5 units would separate the marks so they are easier to see. Always choose a major tick mark larger than your minor tick marks.
You may use the soft keys OK and Clr at any time without scrolling to highlight them. |
| |
| World: This option allows you to change the World's properties. |
 |
Here, you can change the World’s settings, such as the minimum and maximum values, labels, and tick mark values.
You may use the soft keys OK and Clr at any time without scrolling to highlight them. |
| |
 |
Zoom: Here you can enter the Min and Max values of the world. These values should allow you to see both Actor’s starting and ending positions.
Note: If you wish to change the Min and Max values of the World and the labels, go directly to axis.
You may use the soft keys OK and Clr at any time without scrolling to highlight them. |
| |
 |
Grid: Snap (to grid) controls the Actors’ movements along the World. If Snap to grid is ON, the Actor can only move along grid lines, if Snap to grid is OFF, the Actor can move to spaces in between grid lines. For example, if the tick marks are spaced apart every ½ unit and Snap to grid is on the Actor may appear to be at ½ unit if it is actually at ¼ unit.
You may use the soft keys OK and Clr at any time without scrolling to highlight them. |
| |
 |
Labels: Here you can specify a label for the world and determine if you want to display the label by On or Off.
Note: If you wish to change the Min and Max values of the world and the Labels, go directly to Axis.
You may use the soft keys OK and Clr at any time without scrolling to highlight them. |
| |
 |
Axis: Here you can do everything you can in the Zoom and labels menus; enter Min and Max values of the world, determine the frequency of Major and Minor tick marks, specify a label for the World and determine if you want to display the Label by On or Off.
You may use the soft keys OK and Clr at any time without scrolling to highlight them. |
| |
Table : This allows you to see a table of values for a particular graph (Position, Velocity, or Acceleration). |
 |
Choose F4: Tools: Table POS to view a table of the Position function data.
You may use the soft keys OK and Clr at any time without scrolling to highlight them. |
| |
 |
Start: Enter the initial value of x for the table of data. The ending value of x will be determined by the domain of the functions.
Step: Enter the step value of x for the table of data. You may want to suggest students change step values so they can analyze the data more closely. |
| |
 |
For this example, the table is labeled POSITION, therefore it contains position data. --- indicates there is no data for an Actor, i.e., the table values extend beyond the domain of the functions. |
| |
Actor : This allows you to set the name for Actor A or Actor B. |
| Marks: This allows you to display Marks dropped at the Step Time interval while animation is run. |
 |
Turn Marks On or Off for Actor A or Actor B.
You may use the soft keys OK and Clr at any time without scrolling to highlight them. |
| |
| Clock: This allows you to set the start and stop time for animation, as well as the Step Time for stepping through the animation, dropping Marks, or viewing the table. |
 |
You may use the soft keys OK and Clr at any time without scrolling to highlight them. |
